About Infilla
Infilla is on a mission to make housing happen faster
The US is in a housing crisis with 4M to 7M missing housing units, which contributes to homelessness and income inequality. Despite the high stakes, local governments are struggling to regulate $2.1T of annual construction:
It can take years to get the necessary permits to even start construction (it takes a median of 620 days for a housing-related project in San Francisco to get approval)
Local agencies are overwhelmed by the influx of state laws mandating faster processes with more reporting requirements (California has passed 100+ bills since 2016)
Local governments are still using a mix of paper, excel sheets, email, and legacy 90’s software to manage their permits
Faster permitting is a $50 billion opportunity. Infilla supports local governments with user-friendly permitting portals, modern review workflows, and a suite of tools for agency staff and applicants.
Infilla is backed by Basis Set Ventures, Base10 Partners, the Urban Innovation Fund, SHAKTI VC, 20GROWTH, Bloomberg Beta, and 20+ founder angels.
The role
You’ll be the first PM at Infilla, laying the groundwork for how we build, ship, and learn. This role requires that you be in-person most days of the week and we frequently work in our customers’ offices in the Bay Area. The engineering team are all staff-level engineers and/or former founders in California. Our design team is remote in Europe.
What you'll do
Collaborate with the CEO, engineering, and design to develop products that help planning & building departments process entitlements and permits more efficiently, transparently, and consistently
Rapidly and scrappily test hypotheses, define and track product success metrics, and use feedback and data to guide product direction and deliver customer value quickly
Define and own the short- and long-term product roadmap
Lead user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing) to gather customer insights efficiently
Build foundational tools, rituals, and artifacts to accelerate product delivery
.How we work
We collaborate multiple times per-week in-person in San Francisco with work-at-home days to focus on IC work
-
We spend a lot of time with customers during site visits and calls
For example, we have desks at SF Planning and we frequently get feedback from planners in person
We build pragmatically and iteratively, informed by customer conversations
We make time to give & receive feedback that improves how we collaborate
We believe in writing for clarity & alignment
Our values
Velocity > Certainty - Align on what’s important then figure out how to make it happen fast.
Kind > Nice - Share clear, helpful feedback often. Voice your concerns and listen.
Ideas > Hierarchy - Best idea wins regardless of source.
Value > Profit - Make sure the customer gets value from the product first.
This might be a fit if you...
Enjoy building ambitious products that solve real problems and truly support entire communities
Can co-design creatively with design and engineering on the cheapest way to test hypotheses
Comfortably zoom out to strategy and zoom in to execution, balancing resources and priorities to deliver value quickly
Love talking to customers one day and implementing changes the next
Thrive in team and stakeholder environments which require deep collaboration
Communicate succinctly and clearly across all mediums as a default
Effortlessly build deep internal and external relationships
Want to help shape the early culture and processes of a fast-moving startup
Your first 90 days
First week - Shadow planners to learn their day-to-day work. Meet the full engineering and design team. Dive into product modules (with some QA’ing) and immerse yourself in the permitting domain.
First 2 weeks - Deep dive into the current product roadmap. Write your first 1–3 specs. Shadow sales calls to hear customer pain firsthand. Meet key customer contacts.
First 30 days - Run usability testing or user research sessions. Propose changes to product or processes based on last 30 days of observations.
First 60 days - Execute on your first few specs and help implement process improvements. By now, you're owning the product roadmap and regularly spec’ing, testing, and talking to users. You and the engineering team are getting into a good rhythm.
First 90 days - Facilitate alignment on the quarterly product roadmap. Gently scold the CEO for being too optimistic (she’ll probably agree). Attend an industry conference.
